Freelance IT/OT Manufacturing Engineer (GxP Environment)

About the Client
Our client is an international organisation operating manufacturing and industrial facilities in a highly regulated environment. Based in Brussels, the organisation manages complex production systems that require strong alignment between Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT).
The client operates under strict GxP regulations, with a strong focus on system reliability, data integrity, compliance, and operational continuity. Manufacturing control systems and IT/OT infrastructures play a critical role in supporting production, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Freelance IT/OT Manufacturing Engineer to support and evolve manufacturing systems within a regulated GxP environment. The role focuses on the integration, maintenance, and optimisation of IT and OT systems used in industrial and manufacturing operations.
You will work closely with automation engineers, IT infrastructure teams, quality, and business stakeholders to ensure reliable, compliant, and secure manufacturing environments. The position combines hands-on technical expertise with coordination and problem-solving across IT and production domains.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a key technical interface between IT and OT environments within manufacturing operations.
Support, maintain, and improve IT/OT architectures in GxP-regulated manufacturing environments.
Manage and support manufacturing control systems, including Siemens PCS 7 and related automation platforms.
Ensure reliable integration between process control systems and IT infrastructure (networks, servers, Windows environments).
Contribute to the design, implementation, and validation of IT/OT solutions in line with GxP requirements.
Support system upgrades, migrations, patches, and lifecycle management of manufacturing systems.
Participate in incident analysis, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigations impacting production systems.
Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, data integrity, and quality standards applicable to regulated environments.
Collaborate with quality, validation, automation, and infrastructure teams to support audits and inspections.
Produce and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and system descriptions.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to manufacturing digitalisation and IT/OT convergence.

Candidate Requirements
Proven experience as an IT/OT Engineer or Manufacturing Systems Engineer in industrial environments.
Strong experience working in GxP-regulated environments (pharma, biotech, life sciences, or similar).
Hands-on knowledge of Siemens PCS 7 and industrial automation systems.
Solid understanding of IT infrastructure and Windows-based environments in production contexts.
Experience bridging IT and OT domains within manufacturing operations.
Familiarity with validation, compliance, and audit requirements in regulated industries.
Autonomous, structured, and comfortable working in a long-term freelance role.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Fluent in English (spoken and written).
French is a strong plus.
