Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Rail Planning Team Lead to provide long-term operational support for rail planning activities. The role involves leading a small planning team, managing end-to-end planning processes, and ensuring delivery in line with a structured planning cycle.
This is a hands-on leadership role combining team coordination, rail planning expertise, and system-based scheduling.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support a team of 4 rail planners, ensuring consistent delivery and quality standards
Own and manage the rail planning process within a standard 4-week planning cycle
Produce, review, and optimise rail plans to meet operational requirements
Act as the main point of contact for planning-related issues and escalations
Ensure all planning activity is accurately maintained within the planning system
Support continuous improvement of planning processes and team performance
Collaborate with relevant internal stakeholders to align planning with operational needs
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience in rail planning or rail operations planning
Prior experience leading or coordinating a small team
Strong working knowledge of Railcube (essential)
Comfortable working within a structured planning cycle
Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work on-site with some flexibility for remote working
Desirable
Experience in long-term or continuous operational support roles
Background in logistics, rail freight, or transport planning environments
