Interim Maintenance & Repairs Officer

Contract Length: 6-Months (with strong likelihood of extension)
Rate: £300-325 per day
Location: Surrey

About the Role

We are recruiting a Maintenance & Repairs Officer (MRO) to support the delivery of a high-quality, customer-focused repairs and maintenance service across a social housing portfolio in Surrey. The role plays a key part in ensuring homes are safe, compliant, and well maintained, while delivering value for money and excellent outcomes for residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and oversee responsive and planned repairs services, including pre-, in-process, post-completion and void inspections

  • Identify defects, specify appropriate remedial works, and arrange repairs using Schedule of Rates contracts

  • Supervise contractors and in-house teams, monitoring quality, compliance, and performance

  • Authorise works and payments once satisfied that repairs are completed to the required standard

  • Use computerised repairs and asset management systems to manage work orders and property data

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to coordinate works and improve service efficiency

  • Carry out estate, health & safety, and asbestos-related inspections as required

  • Communicate effectively with residents, contractors, and internal teams, managing enquiries and expectations

  • Monitor service performance and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

  • Participate in out-of-hours standby and emergency response arrangements when required

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of building construction, defects, and repair solutions

  • Experience working in repairs, maintenance, or property management (social housing desirable)

  • Ability to prepare specifications, schedules of works, and estimates

  • Experience managing contractors and ensuring Health & Safety compliance

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a varied workload

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

  • Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Outlook, with experience using housing systems desirable

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English

  • HNC/HND in Building Construction or relevant NVQ

Additional Information

  • Full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle required

  • Ability to travel across Surrey for site visits

  • Disclosure check required

  • Occasional out-of-hours work, including emergency response
