Our client is a leading signalling organisation operating in the rail sector, delivering safety-critical software and hardware systems used in complex railway environments. Based in Brussels, they are heavily involved in long-term, high-impact projects with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and innovation in rail signalling technologies.
Role Overview:
Reporting to the Software Director, the Software Integration Engineer will be responsible for software/software and hardware/software integration activities across system, software, and component levels. You will play a key role in ensuring the maturity, reliability, and performance of safety-critical solutions, working closely with development teams throughout the lifecycle of the software.
Key Responsibilities:
• Define and implement strategies for software/software and hardware/software integration
• Produce detailed integration test specifications
• Design and develop automated integration test campaigns
• Maintain and evolve integration platforms and supporting tools
• Propose, evaluate, and help deploy new integration technologies within the organisation
• Act as a key counterpart to development teams to support software quality and maturation
• Actively participate in design reviews and prototyping sessions
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a structured, safety-critical environment
Candidate Requirements:
• Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience delivering projects involving software/hardware interaction
• Strong understanding of network protocols
• Solid knowledge of hardware architectures and related concepts, including:
– CPU architectures
– Real-time systems
– System configuration and low-level integration
• Familiarity with the development of critical software products, ideally within the railway sector
• Hands-on technical mindset with strong ability to navigate and understand complex codebases
• Pragmatic, solution-oriented, and comfortable working across different technical layers
• Strong team player, open to discussion and collaborative problem-solving
• Fluent in French and English; additional European languages are a plus
