Income Officer
📍 Location: East Midlands
💰 Pay: £25-30ph (Dependent on experience)
🕒 Contract: 6 Months (Possibility to extend)

We are currently supporting a local authority in the East Midlands that is seeking an experienced and proactive Income Officer to join their housing team. This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping residents maintain their tenancies through effective income collection and financial support.
The Role
As an Income Officer, your key duties will include:
Managing a caseload of tenancies to ensure timely rent collection and reduce arrears.
Providing early intervention and tailored support to tenants experiencing financial difficulty.
Offering advice on rent payments, welfare benefits (including Universal Credit), and budgeting.
Setting up and monitoring affordable repayment arrangements with tenants.
Taking proportionate enforcement action where necessary, including serving notices and preparing legal documentation.
Liaising with internal teams and external partners such as Housing Benefits, DWP, and money advice services.
Supporting tenancy sustainment and reducing evictions through preventative work.
Maintaining accurate records of all tenant interactions and recovery actions.
Producing reports on rent arrears and income performance as required.
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
Previous experience in rent collection, income recovery, or housing finance.
A strong understanding of housing and welfare legislation, including Universal Credit and income-related support.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
The ability to manage difficult conversations sensitively and professionally.
Great organisational skills and the ability to prioritise a demanding workload.
IT literacy and experience using housing management or CRM systems.
A commitment to customer service and helping vulnerable tenants sustain their homes.
