Housing Options Officer

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real impact, supporting vulnerable individuals and families by delivering an effective homelessness prevention and housing advice service.

The Role

As a Housing Options Officer, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality housing options and homelessness advice, including triaging enquiries from families, vulnerable adults, and those at risk of homelessness.

  • Apply up-to-date knowledge of housing legislation and statutory duties to ensure accurate advice and case management.

  • Investigate homelessness cases, assess applications, and support clients in securing accommodation in line with legislative requirements.

  • Liaise with registered providers, private landlords, and partner agencies to strengthen housing options and prevention services.

  • Manage and support the housing register, allocations process, and nomination agreements.

  • Assist clients to retain their accommodation through effective prevention, early intervention, and signposting to relevant support agencies.

  • Support temporary accommodation arrangements, including B&B placements, and monitor related budget spend.

  • Contribute to the Homes for Ukraine scheme, assisting guests to secure more permanent housing where needed.

  • Maintain accurate case records and provide statistical data to inform service delivery.

  • Attend court hearings and professional meetings, ensuring clients are supported and represented appropriately.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, statutory homelessness duties, and local authority responsibilities.

  • Experience delivering housing advice and homelessness prevention services.

  • Ability to work with vulnerable groups, maintaining a customer-focused approach.

  • Excellent communication and partnership working skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with landlords, providers, and external agencies.

  • Strong organisational skills, with experience managing caseloads and meeting legislative deadlines.

  • Awareness of safeguarding practices and a commitment to supporting at-risk individuals.
