Homelessness Officer – Surrey
Contract: 6 months
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days per week in the office
We are currently working with a local authority in Surrey seeking an experienced Homelessness Officer to join their team on a 6-month contract.
This role will support the council’s statutory homelessness service, managing a caseload of applicants and ensuring the authority meets its duties under homelessness legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
Managing homelessness applications from initial approach through to prevention, relief, and main duty stages
Completing homelessness assessments, Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs), and statutory decision letters
Providing housing advice and homelessness prevention support in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
Liaising with landlords, temporary accommodation providers, and internal teams
Maintaining accurate case notes and ensuring compliance with legislation and local policies
Requirements:
Previous experience working as a Homelessness Officer within a local authority
Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, including HRA 2017
Ability to manage a busy caseload and work to deadlines
Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills
Working Arrangements:
Hybrid working model
Expected 2 days per week in the office in Surrey
