About the Role
An exceptional opportunity to lead one of the UK’s largest and most complex Waste Disposal Authorities. You’ll oversee services managing over 650,000 tonnes of waste annually, including 20+ Recycling Centres, Transfer Stations, and multiple closed landfill sites.
Responsible for contracts worth over £1 billion, you’ll ensure safe, compliant, and efficient waste operations, driving performance, innovation, and environmental excellence. Working within a collaborative leadership team, you’ll help deliver the counties ambitions for a low-carbon, circular economy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations across all recycling and transfer facilities and haulage.
- Ensure full health & safety and environmental compliance.
- Manage budgets of around £90 million, ensuring robust financial control.
- Oversee major waste procurements and contractor performance.
- Manage 7 direct reports and a wider workforce of 200+.
- Work with 12 Waste Collection Authorities across Essex.
About You
- Chartered Waste Manager (MCIWM) or equivalent, with proven senior leadership experience.
- Expert knowledge of waste and resource policy, operations, and contract management.
- Strong financial, people, and stakeholder management skills.
- Committed to safety, sustainability, and service excellence.
