Head of Legal / Deputy Monitoring Officer
Local Authority – South of England
Initial 3–6 Month Contract | Hybrid Working (2 Days On-Site)
Vivid Resourcing are currently supporting a local authority in the South of England who are seeking an experienced Head of Legal / Deputy Monitoring Officer to join the organisation on an interim basis.
This is a senior leadership role, offering the opportunity to provide strategic legal oversight while supporting governance, standards and corporate decision-making across the council.
Responsibilities:
Acting as Head of Legal Services, providing strategic leadership to the legal function
Supporting the Monitoring Officer function and deputising as required
Advising members, senior officers and committees on governance, constitutional and local government law matters
Overseeing legal risk management and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations
Managing and supporting legal staff, including performance and service delivery
Attending key meetings and committees, with 2 days per week on-site
Requirements:
Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales
Significant experience in local authority law, ideally at a senior or management level
Experience acting as, or deputising for, a Monitoring Officer
Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
Comfortable operating in a high-profile, decision-making role
Contract Details:
Competitive daily rate (dependent on experience)
Hybrid working with 2 days per week on-site
Initial 3–6 month contract with strong potential for extension
