Freelance System Administrator / IT Support Engineer
Location: Remote (Germany) — On Site visits to Frankfurt as needed
Contract: 3‑month initial freelance engagement (extension likely)
About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Freelance System Administrator / IT Support Engineer to support their internal IT team. The role focuses on account provisioning, server setup, systems integration, and tooling/license administration across a modern mixed IT landscape. You will assist with day‑to‑day operational support and help maintain a stable, secure, and scalable environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provision and manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain new servers (virtual & physical).
- Support systems integration across identity, infrastructure, and internal toolchains.
- Set up and manage licenses for engineering, productivity, and enterprise systems.
- Provide IT support: troubleshooting access issues, devices, connectivity, and applications.
- Maintain accurate documentation, asset records, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate with internal IT teams to uphold reliability and security standards.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Windows and Linux system administration.
- Experience with cloud identity & endpoint management (e.g., directory services, device policies).
- Ability to configure and troubleshoot virtualisation systems, network devices (switches, firewalls, VPN), and backup/NAS solutions.
- Skilled in deploying and maintaining servers (cloud & on‑prem) and managing integrated business/IT systems.
- Comfortable managing software and tooling licenses across diverse internal teams.
- Strong troubleshooting skills using standard diagnostic tools and IT methodologies.
- English‑speaking is fully sufficient; German language skills are a plus but not required.
- Self‑driven working style, comfortable in a remote‑first role with occasional onsite work in Wetzlar.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to DevOps environments, CI/CD tools, containerisation, registries, or workflow automation platforms.
- Scripting or automation capability (any language).
