About the Assignment

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance General Ledger Accountant to support a finance function based in Antwerp. This is a hands-on interim opportunity within a team of three finance professionals, offering the chance to play a key role in the day-to-day accounting operations and month-end processes for two Belgian entities.

The successful candidate will benefit from a structured handover period during their first month to ensure a smooth transition into the role and business environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the General Ledger accounting activities for two Belgian entities
• Ensure compliance with Belgian GAAP
• Support and execute the month-end close process
• Perform balance sheet and account reconciliations
• Prepare and execute payment runs
• Manage VAT reporting and related compliance activities
• Review monthly actual results against budgets and forecasts
• Provide detailed variance analysis and explanations on financial performance
• Support financial reporting requirements and ensure accuracy of accounting records
• Work closely with the wider finance team of three people on daily accounting activities
• Contribute to improving financial processes and controls where appropriate
• Support general costing activities, ensuring accurate cost allocations and analysis

Candidate Profile

• 3–5+ years of accounting experience within a General Ledger or Financial Accounting environment
• Strong understanding of Belgian GAAP
• Experience with:
  • Month-end closing activities
  • Account reconciliations
  • Payment processing
  • VAT reporting
  • Budget versus actual analysis
  • Cost accounting / general costing
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment and taking ownership of accounting processes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a small finance team
• Fluent in Dutch and English
