About the role:
- Job Title: Food Safety Officer
- Contract: Temporary, Part-Time (21 hours per week)
- Rate: £40.00 – £45.00 per hour (umbrella)
- Location: Surrey
- Contract Length: 6 months
- Closing Date: 15th January 2026
Responsibilities:
- The council are looking for an experienced Food Safety Officer to join their Environmental Health team, undertaking food hygiene inspections, advisory work, and enforcement duties across the borough.
- The role will involve carrying out routine and reactive inspections of food premises, responding to service requests and complaints, and ensuring compliance with food safety legislation.
- Applications are welcomed from Environmental Health Officers and suitably qualified Food Safety Officers with relevant enforcement experience.
- This is a part-time position (21 hours per week), offering flexibility while supporting the service’s operational needs.
The experience you will bring:
- Extensive knowledge of food safety legislation, including Food Safety Act 1990 and Food Hygiene Regulations
- Experience inspecting a wide range of food premises and issuing food hygiene ratings
- Proven experience in food safety enforcement and advisory work
- Ability to prepare reports, notices, and take enforcement action where necessary
- Relevant food safety qualification (e.g. EHRB / CIEH registered or equivalent)
