About the Role
A Local Authority in North Scotland is seeking an experienced Food Hygiene Inspector to support their Environmental Health team on a 6-month contract.
This role focuses on delivering a programme of inspections across predominantly low-risk food premises. It is an advisory-led position with no enforcement responsibilities, ideal for candidates who are confident in providing guidance and ensuring compliance through engagement rather than formal action.
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out approximately 10–12 inspections per week.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake programmed food hygiene inspections of low-risk premises
Provide clear, practical advice and guidance to food business operators
Support compliance with relevant Scottish food safety legislation
Complete inspection reports and associated documentation
Input findings and maintain accurate records on internal systems
Work collaboratively with the wider Environmental Health team
Requirements
Previous experience conducting food hygiene inspections within a Local Authority
Strong knowledge of Scottish food law and relevant regulations
Experience working in an advisory or non-enforcement capacity
Ability to manage a consistent inspection workload (10–12 per week)
Good report writing and communication skills
EHRB / CIEH registration or equivalent food competency
