Finance Manager Position
Location: Brussels / Central – Belgium
- Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
- Contract type: Freelance – 12-month fixed-term mission
Role overview
The Finance Manager will lead the Belgian finance function on a 12-month freelance mission, overseeing controlling, treasury, accounting and general finance.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, consolidate, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results to the CFO and senior leadership; ensure accuracy, timeliness, and insightful commentary.
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, and rolling-forecast processes; collaborate with business units to translate strategy into financial plans and KPIs.
- Serve as primary business partner to operational leaders on cost control, margin improvement, capital allocation, and commercial decision support.
- Oversee statutory and management reporting compliance (IFRS/local GAAP), ensuring controls and governance frameworks are designed and operating effectively.
- Manage liquidity and short-term treasury operations for Belgian entities; optimize working capital and support cash-flow forecasting.
- Lead month-end and year-end close activities; coordinate external audit and tax filings for Belgian entities.
- Implement process improvements and automation initiatives to increase efficiency in reporting, forecasting, and transaction processing.
- Provide coaching, performance management, and career development for direct reports; build a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
Qualifications & experience
- Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or equivalent; professional qualification (CPA/ACCA/CIMA) preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including leadership of small teams; prior experience in industrials, materials, mining, or recycling sectors is a strong plus.
- Knowledge of IFRS and Belgian statutory requirements; experience coordinating external audits.
- Strong FP&A, management reporting, and business-partnering skills; proven track record driving process improvement and system implementation.
- Excellent analytical skills, commercial mindset, and ability to translate financial insight into strategic recommendations.
- Fluent in English, Dutch or French a plus.
- Proven people leader with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop finance professionals.
