Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Environmental Protection and Housing Manager your role as Environmental Protection Officer, you will be responsible for nuisance and public health complaint work as well as licensing inspections and enforcement, air quality monitoring and reporting, environmental permitting, and other aspects of EP.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knowledge of Environmental Protection, Public Health, and all aspects of Licensing.
  • Inspect, monitor, and enforce the relevant legislation in all premises as necessary.
  • Work with the Environmental Protection and Housing Manager when required in the delivery of key projects and objectives.
  • Carry out investigations and prepare reports upon associated matters referred to the Environmental Protection Unit and the service by members of the public.
  • Liaison with other Teams and Departments of the Council, other Agencies including the Police and Trade organisations relevant to the duties.
  • Attend Council meetings as required and assist in the presentation of reports to Members.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of Service Delivery Plans
  • Develop and apply quality control procedures and processes in service areas
  • Embrace and promote the values of the organisation and ensure that the highest standards of conduct and behaviour in line with Council’s Code of Conduct.
  • Participate as required in the Council’s emergency planning role.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Recent and relevant experience and knowledge of Environmental Protection.
  • Working with businesses in a supporting role.
  • Experience of investigations in relation to Environmental Protection matters.
  • Ability to produce technical reports/letters.
  • A proactive approach to work.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Council’s organisational values and a commitment to apply them.
  • Excellent team working skills.
  • Effective organisational skills.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing at a high level.
  • Able to maintain a customer-orientated approach to the performance of duties and to maintain a competent level of knowledge and skills.
