Environmental Protection Officer – Hertfordshire Local Authority
Contract: 6 months (with potential for extension)

A local authority in Hertfordshire is seeking an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to provide interim support to their Environmental Health team. This role will focus on protecting the health and wellbeing of communities by investigating and resolving environmental protection matters.
Key Responsibilities
Investigate statutory nuisances including noise, odour, smoke, dust, light, and other environmental issues affecting residents and businesses
Respond to and manage environmental complaints across the district
Draft and serve enforcement notices, preparing evidence and case files for legal proceedings where required
Provide professional input on environmental impacts for planning applications and development proposals
Support wider Environmental Health and Public Health work as needed
About You
Proven experience in Environmental Protection, ideally within a local authority setting
Strong knowledge of statutory nuisance legislation and enforcement procedures
Confident in handling investigations, evidence gathering, and enforcement action
Able to manage a varied caseload independently and effectively
Flexible approach with willingness to work onsite across the district as required
