Environmental Protection Officer – Cheshire Local Authority
Contract: 6 months (with potential for extension)
Start Date: ASAP
A local authority in Cheshire is seeking an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to provide interim support to their Environmental Health team. This role will focus on protecting the health and well-being of local communities by delivering high-quality environmental protection services.
Key Responsibilities
Investigate statutory nuisances including noise, odour, smoke, light, and other matters affecting residents and businesses
Respond to and manage domestic and commercial environmental complaints
Draft and serve enforcement notices, preparing evidence and statements for potential legal proceedings
Review planning applications and provide input on potential environmental impacts
Support wider Public Health work, including pest infestations, filthy/verminous premises, and arranging Public Health funerals
About You
Proven experience in Environmental Protection, ideally within a local authority setting
Strong knowledge of statutory nuisance legislation and enforcement procedures
Ability to manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision
Flexible approach with willingness to work onsite across the district as required
