Role Overview
Our client is seeking a motivated and skilled Criminal Defence Solicitor to join our dynamic team in London. The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload across all areas of criminal law, including police station representation, Magistrates’ and Crown Court work, and advisory matters.
This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to develop within a supportive environment, working alongside experienced litigators and advocates.
Key Responsibilities
Represent clients at police stations, Magistrates’ Courts, and Crown Courts
Advise clients from arrest through to trial and appeal, ensuring high standards of care and legal accuracy
Prepare and manage criminal defence case files, including instructing counsel, obtaining expert evidence, and drafting legal documents
Attend court hearings and case conferences as required
Undertake legal aid and privately funded work in compliance with relevant funding frameworks
Work collaboratively with team members, clerks, and external professionals
Maintain accurate records and ensure case progression within deadlines
Participate in duty solicitor rota (if accredited) or work towards accreditation
Requirements
Essential
Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (NQ–3 PQE considered)
Demonstrable experience in criminal law casework
Excellent communication and advocacy skills
Strong drafting, research, and case preparation skills
Ability to manage multiple cases and prioritise under pressure
Commitment to client care, confidentiality, and ethical practice
Willingness to work out-of-hours on occasion (e.g. police station attendances)
Desirable
Police Station Representative Accreditation (or working toward)
Legal Aid Agency billing experience
Experience with Crown Court litigation and serious offences

Job Type: Locum, Full-Time
Location: Office-based in London, with hybrid flexibility considered
Salary: Competitive and dependent on experience (plus bonus potential)
Duration: 6 months with potential of extending
