I’m working with a client based in East Anglia who is recruiting for an Interim Business Rates and Recovery Manager on an initial 3-month contract. The Role
As the Business Rates and Recovery Manager, you will take responsibility for the effective management of business rates operations and recovery functions, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and delivering high-quality service outcomes.
You’ll provide hands-on leadership and direction for the team, overseeing operational activity and performance while applying your deep technical knowledge. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and can hit the ground running with minimal onboarding.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the Business Rates and Recovery function, providing strong day-to-day operational oversight.
Ensure efficient billing, collection and enforcement of Business Rates and related local taxation revenue streams, including recovery activity.
Support performance improvement, drive operational excellence and help maintain strong service standards.
Provide technical and specialist advice to teams and stakeholders on legislation, policy and best practice in local taxation and recovery.
Use data and management information to monitor performance, inform decision-making, and report outcomes.
Oversee compliance with statutory regulations and local authority policies.
Skills & Experience Required
We’re looking for a candidate with:
Proven experience managing a Revenues, Business Rates or Recovery team, including operational leadership and workload management.
Comprehensive knowledge of Business Rates legislation, billing and enforcement, with direct experience handling recovery activity in a local authority context.
Strong understanding of Revenues systems, ideally including Civica OpenRevenues or similar local taxation platforms.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex legislation and decisions to diverse audiences.
A track record of driving service improvements and performance outcomes through leadership and analytical insight.
