We are looking for 3 Automation Engineer contractors for a shutdown project on a gas pipeline involving the removal and replacement of valves, installation of new pipe sections, and terminal valve upgrades.
Role Summary
Automation Engineers will support the design verification, replacement, integration, and commissioning of safety systems during the shutdown. The role will focus on implementing and validating Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF), working with ABB control environments and HIMA safety systems, and ensuring full compliance with IEC 61511 lifecycle requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support replacement and upgrade of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) during shutdown.
- Ensure systems are designed, implemented, and validated in accordance with IEC 61511.
- Participate in SIL verification, loop design, and safety lifecycle documentation.
- Review cause & effect charts, safety requirement specifications (SRS), and logic diagrams.
- Work with ABB automation platforms and HIMA safety systems for configuration and integration.
- Support migration or modification of existing control and safety architectures.
- Interface with DCS/PLC environments and ensure compatibility with operational systems.
- Coordinate with mechanical and process teams during valve and terminal upgrades.
- Support installation, testing, and commissioning of safety and automation systems within shutdown schedule.
- Assist with FAT/SAT, loop checks, and functional safety testing.
- Troubleshoot system issues and support safe reinstatement of plant operations.
- Ensure adherence to IEC 61511 functional safety lifecycle requirements.
- Align with French regulatory standards and client engineering specifications.
- Work closely with ABB, HIMA Germany, and project engineering teams.
Profile
- Experience in oil & gas, gas transmission, or process industry shutdown projects.
- Proven background in Safety Instrumented Systems and functional safety.
- Experience with system upgrades or migrations in brownfield environments.
- Strong knowledge of IEC 61511 and functional safety lifecycle.
- Experience with ABB automation platforms (e.g., 800xA or similar) preferred.
- Familiarity with HIMA safety PLC systems is highly desirable.
- Experience with SIL assessments, SRS development, and cause & effect implementation.
- Understanding of field instrumentation, ESD systems, and control architecture.
- Ability to work effectively during high-pressure shutdown schedules.
- Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- Analytical problem-solving and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in multicultural, multilingual project environments.
