Exciting 12 month freelance assignment with a client based in Germany. They are a specialist in custom special-purpose machines and intelligent montage automation solutions, designing, building and programming bespoke assembly systems, robotic cells, feeding technology and automation lines for production processes across multiple industries.
They are looking for a skilled Siemens NX Design Engineer with strong Digital Twin and virtual commissioning capabilities to support the development of advanced special-purpose machines, automated assembly systems, robotic cells, and custom production modules. You will play a key role in transforming customer requirements into high-performance mechanical designs, using NX and digital-twin workflows to shorten development cycles and validate machine behavior before build.

- Design complex mechanical assemblies for automated production lines, rotary transfer systems, feeding technology, and robotic handling units using Siemens NX.
- Create and maintain Digital Twin models to simulate kinematics, motion behaviour, load conditions, and cycle-time scenarios for automated systems.
- Collaborate with automation engineers on virtual commissioning, linking NX models with PLC logic (Simit / Process Simulate / PLCSIM Advanced) to validate machine performance before manufacturing.
- Generate detailed 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and documentation compliant with engineering standards.
- Conduct feasibility studies, tolerance analyses, and ergonomic/maintenance accessibility assessments for customer-specific machine concepts.
- Work closely with controls, electrical design, and assembly teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanics, robotics, pneumatics, and motion systems.
Requirements:

- Ability to be on site in Germany 50% of the time.
- Ability to speak English (German preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Siemens NX (Digital twin)
- Experience in digitalisation of human machines
- Background in Programming or mechatronics.
