Freelance Financial AP (Accounts Payable) Accounting Lead – Industrial Sector 

What the Project Is About 
This freelance mission supports a rapidly scaling industrial organization that has expanded from hundreds of millions in revenue to well over €1bn in a relatively short period. While commercial growth has accelerated, the finance function, specifically Accounts Payable must now evolve to match this scale. 
The key objective of this role is to build a world-class, highly scalable AP function capable of handling significant transaction volumes.  

Day-to-Day Responsibilities 

  • Take full ownership of Accounts Payable operations as AP Lead 

  • Support and structure AP scaling in line with company growth (€1bn+) 

  • Professionalise and optimise the end-to-end Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process 

  • Design and implement high-volume, scalable AP processes fit for industrial operations 

  • Drive efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness across invoice processing and payments 

  • Create and operate an AP “cockpit” using KPIs and operational metrics 

  • Proactively identify, flag, and resolve process bottlenecks 

  • Plan capacity and workload to support continuous volume growth 

  • Lead process improvement initiatives with measurable, data-driven impact 

  • Manage and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders (procurement, operations, finance leadership) 

  • Act as the internal subject-matter expert for all things Accounts Payable 

Requirements for the Candidate 

Experience & Mindset 

  • Minimum 3+ years of hands-on Accounts Payable experience 

  • Strong AP focus with a clear desire to master and specialise in AP 

  • Proven track record of process improvement with quantifiable results 

  • Experience in high-growth, high-volume environments 

  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced setting 

  • High level of professional curiosity and continuous improvement mindset 

Skills & Communication 

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills 

  • Able to translate operational challenges into structured process solutions 

  • English-only working environment (fluency required) 

Technology 

  • Hands-on experience with AP systems required 

  • SAP experience is a strong plus but not mandatory 

This role suits a medior to senior AP professional who takes pride in building best-in-class Accounts Payable operations within a complex, scale-up environment.

Location: Sint-Truiden 

Hours Per Week: 40 

Onsite Policy: 2-3 Day Onsite Per Week
