Freelance Financial AP (Accounts Payable) Accounting Lead – Industrial Sector
What the Project Is About
This freelance mission supports a rapidly scaling industrial organization that has expanded from hundreds of millions in revenue to well over €1bn in a relatively short period. While commercial growth has accelerated, the finance function, specifically Accounts Payable must now evolve to match this scale.
The key objective of this role is to build a world-class, highly scalable AP function capable of handling significant transaction volumes.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Take full ownership of Accounts Payable operations as AP Lead
Support and structure AP scaling in line with company growth (€1bn+)
Professionalise and optimise the end-to-end Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process
Design and implement high-volume, scalable AP processes fit for industrial operations
Drive efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness across invoice processing and payments
Create and operate an AP “cockpit” using KPIs and operational metrics
Proactively identify, flag, and resolve process bottlenecks
Plan capacity and workload to support continuous volume growth
Lead process improvement initiatives with measurable, data-driven impact
Manage and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders (procurement, operations, finance leadership)
Act as the internal subject-matter expert for all things Accounts Payable
Requirements for the Candidate
Experience & Mindset
Minimum 3+ years of hands-on Accounts Payable experience
Strong AP focus with a clear desire to master and specialise in AP
Proven track record of process improvement with quantifiable results
Experience in high-growth, high-volume environments
Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced setting
High level of professional curiosity and continuous improvement mindset
Skills & Communication
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Able to translate operational challenges into structured process solutions
English-only working environment (fluency required)
Technology
Hands-on experience with AP systems required
SAP experience is a strong plus but not mandatory
