Accounting Manager – Freelance (Long-Term)

About the Role
An international consulting firm with operations across multiple countries is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead a multi-location team and oversee complex client portfolios. This role sits within a fast-paced, high-performance environment and requires strong leadership, client-management skills, and the ability to work autonomously.
You will manage a team of senior and supervisory accountants based across Belgium and international hubs, ensuring high-quality delivery of accounting and reporting services for a diverse client base.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional from a fiduciary, consulting, or professional-services environment who thrives in a client-facing leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise a team of approximately 10 accounting professionals across Belgium and international support centres.
Oversee the full delivery of accounting and reporting activities for a varied portfolio of international clients.
Participate in client meetings, onboarding processes, and implementation of new mandates.
Ensure accuracy and compliance across all deliverables and support continuous process improvement.
Prepare budgets, forecasts, and internal reporting for the Belgium office.
Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate closely with the Country Manager and senior leadership to drive operational excellence.
Support training, development, and performance management of the accounting team.
Maintain strong communication flows across teams, ensuring timely and high-quality outputs.
Profile
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a fiduciary, consulting, or professional-services environment (Big 4 / BDO experience is a strong advantage).
Proven experience managing teams of 8–12 people, ideally across multiple locations.
Strong understanding of international client environments and service-delivery expectations.
Excellent communication and organisational skills; able to perform under pressure.
Highly client-oriented, proactive, and capable of taking full ownership of deliverables.
Fluent English required; Dutch or French is a strong advantage.
ITAA qualification is not required.
Available at least 2 days per week on-site in Brussels; minimal travel abroad.
Able to commit to a long-term engagement.
