About the Role
We are currently supporting a Local Authority client in Staffordshire in their search for an experienced Tree Officer to join the team on an interim basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the management and protection of the authority’s tree assets, supporting both planning and operational functions. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Tree Officer and wider council departments to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and best practice.
Key Responsibilities
Provide professional arboricultural advice on planning applications
Assess and comment on tree-related aspects of development proposals
Manage and respond to day-to-day enquiries from members of the public and internal council departments
Advise on matters relating to Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and community trees
Support the administration, review and enforcement of TPOs
Liaise daily with the Senior Tree Officer, ensuring visibility of ongoing tree-related matters
Maintain accurate records and contribute to reporting requirements
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies and local standards
Required Experience
Proven experience working as a Tree Officer within a Local Authority setting
Strong knowledge of arboricultural best practice and relevant legislation
Experience dealing with planning consultations and TPOs
Confident managing stakeholder enquiries and providing clear technical advice
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with senior colleagues
Contract Details
6–9 month interim contract
£40–45 per hour
Weekly office attendance required
Initial 2 days per week in the office (in Staffordshire), with flexibility to increase once established in the role
