Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Microsoft 365 (M365) Architect for a 6–12 month contract engagement to lead the architecture, governance, and optimization of Microsoft 365 services within a complex enterprise environment. This role is responsible for defining M365 strategy, ensuring secure and scalable design, and guiding modernization initiatives in partnership with security, infrastructure, and business stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a senior-level architect with deep hands-on expertise across the M365 platform, strong identity and security knowledge, and the ability to provide technical leadership in a fast-moving enterprise setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical and architectural authority for Microsoft 365 services across the organization
- Design, document, and govern M365 architectures including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Teams, and Power Platform
- Define and enforce tenant configuration standards, governance models, and best practices
- Architect identity and access solutions using Azure AD / Entra ID, including Conditional Access, MFA, RBAC, PIM, and Zero Trust principles
- Partner with security teams on Microsoft Purview, DLP, Information Protection, eDiscovery, retention, and compliance controls
- Lead and support M365 migrations, including tenant-to-tenant, hybrid Exchange, and legacy collaboration platform transitions
- Design and optimize Microsoft Teams collaboration and voice architectures (where applicable)
- Provide architectural oversight for integrations between M365 and third-party or enterprise systems
- Advise on licensing strategies, service adoption, and cost optimization
- Develop high-level and low-level architecture diagrams, standards, and technical documentation
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex M365 design or security challenges
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, networking, and security teams to align M365 architecture with enterprise strategy
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in enterprise Microsoft technologies
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and architecting Microsoft 365 environments
- Deep expertise in Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams
- Strong experience with Azure AD / Entra ID, identity federation, and access controls
- Solid understanding of M365 security and compliance capabilities (Purview, DLP, retention, eDiscovery)
- Experience supporting hybrid environments and large-scale migrations
- Strong architectural documentation and communication skills
- Ability to operate independently in a contract-based, delivery-focused role
Preferred / Nice-to-have
- Experience with tenant consolidation or multi-tenant architectures
- Teams Voice / Phone System experience
- Power Platform governance and security experience
- Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture models
- Experience in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, government)
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent
